KFC's biggest day...bet the mothers loved it
Well sad but true, today is a special day when it comes to greasy, fresh I mean 'sometimes frozen' fast food chains. Apparently today, being Mother's Day, is the biggest selling day of the year for such esteemed and respected fine dining venues such as KFC and McDonalds. As the advertising ploys clearly say, "Let dad bring home a pack today", "Give mum a break, pick up KFC on the way home"...and for the first time in their lives, the dads actually listen. All I wonder is, what mum or dare I say hard-working woman actually eats any of these foods nor wants them stinking out the house on any day, let alone on mother's day. Moreover, why would the ads insist that today, or any day the ads are broadcast, buying some overly priced, underly tasting and disgusting bi-product of one of the several multi-nationals would lead to 'giving mum a break'...and why is dad always just 'on his way home'. Where is dad I wonder, is he out shopping for nutrious family food, is he at a local cooking course to learn how to contribute to the family with one minor step for man and one giant leap for feminism, or is he perhaps at the pub yet again with his mates watching his third game and due to his clear inablity to contribute in any other way to the family needs, he picks up some fatty processed food to dump on the coffee table in front of the tv in some pathetic attempt to make up for his former activities??? If the later, than may I say what I thought I never would...he should go right into that drive through venue and pick up those nasty treats for his family as it seems it is an achievement that he managed to process a simple instruction (albeit it being an advertising slogan by said companies). And besides these families need to settle in front of their tv with their super-sized box of crap well and truly in time for the "hey hey it's eat crap and watch even worse crap" tv show. However, if perhaps dad and maybe even mum actually have a life, actually care about themselves and their children and wow low and behold dad even knows how to cook a simple dinner on any night for that matter or on those special occassions, than I suggest they bypass the sexist, banal and discrimantory advertising campaigns of these multi-nationals and help change the statistics of this 'biggest selling-out' day of the year! Hope you all had a relaxing Mother's day full of fine food and festivities. x
